Autism Assessment

Assessments for diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) available for adults, children, and adolescents in West of Melbourne, Williams Landing.

What are Autism Assesments?

An autism assessment is a thorough evaluation conducted by a qualified practitioner to determine if an individual meets the diagnostic criteria for Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). It provides valuable insights into strengths, challenges, and potential support needs. At our clinic, we utilize the ADOS-2 assessment tool as a key component of our evaluation process.

What is ADOS-2?

You may have encountered the term ADOS-2 (Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule), when discussing assessments for Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).

The ADOS-2 is a gold standard tool for diagnosing autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Administered by qualified professionals like psychologists or developmental pediatricians, it evaluates social communication skills and restricted/repetitive behaviors through structured activities and prompts.

While the ADOS-2 is highly regarded in the diagnostic process, it's important to recognize that no single assessment tool alone can provide a definitive diagnosis.

Diagnosis typically involves a combination of assessments, interviews, observations, and clinical judgment. Therefore, it is vital to seek out a qualified and trained clinician proficient in utilizing the ADOS-2 and other assessment tools. Their expertise ensures accurate evaluations and informed diagnoses, ultimately leading to appropriate interventions and support for individuals with autism spectrum disorder.
