Who Is Eligible?

  • Individuals with a valid Medicare Card

  • Individuals referred by a GP or Specialist

  • Individuls wanting therapy session with a Fully Registered AHPRA Psychologist

At Positive Mind Hub, we are proud to offer a diverse team of psychologists committed to providing high-quality mental health care. Our team includes both fully registered psychologists and provisional psychologists. While our fully registered psychologists can assist you in claiming Medicare rebates for your therapy sessions, please note that you can't claim medicare rebates on sessions carried out with our provisional psychologists . However, to ensure accessibility to quality care, we offer private sessions with our provisional psychologists at a lower rate. This option allows you to receive professional support tailored to your needs while managing costs effectively. Regardless of who you choose to work with, rest assured that you will receive compassionate and effective care from our dedicated team.

To claim these rebates, you must have a referral, in the form of a Mental Health Care Plan, from your GP, psychiatrist or paediatrician. Eligible individuals can receive a rebate of $93.35 per session.

Please note: You do not need a Mental Health Care plan if you have NDIS funding.

Psychotherapy

Clients with a Mental Health Care Plan receive the same rebates for telehealth as for face-to-face therapy.

Please note: Medicare doesn’t cover you while you’re overseas, please also check with your Private Health provider if applicable

Please Note: a GP referral and Mental Health Plan is required PRIOR to your first appointment in order to receive a Medicare rebate. Medicare will not pay a rebate if the Plan is dated after the appointment.

To claim these rebates, you must have a referral and Mental Heal Care Plan prior to your first appointment, from your GP, psychiatrist, or paediatrician. Those eligible can receive:

  • 10 individual counselling sessions in a calendar year. Your referring doctor will assess your progress after the first 6 sessions in order to access the following 4 sessions

Psychological testing and Assessments

Medicare does not provide rebates for Assessments, but you can claim the initial consultation in your test package.

Please note: Medicare rebates are only available to those clients who have a GP referral and Mental Health Care Plan.

Getting a Mental Health Care Plan

When making an appointment with your GP, it is important to tell the receptionist that you are requesting a referral to a psychologist, as your doctor needs approximately 30 minutes to discuss the plan with you and fill in the required paperwork.

If you have a Mental Health Treatment Plan, the Medicare rebate in 2024 for a 50-minute consultation will be $93.35 for a Registered Psychologist. You will however be eligible for a significantly higher rebate, once you reach the Medicare Safety Net threshold.

Private Health Information

Psychological services are covered by most private health funds, but you cannot make a Medicare claim if you choose to be covered by your private health fund. Please ask our admin team if you would like to access your private health insurance.

Your invoice will be emailed to you if you wish to make a private health claim
