What is a Cognitive Assessment?

Cognitive assessments are structured evaluations used by psychologists to measure an individual's cognitive abilities, including memory, attention, language, reasoning, and problem-solving skills. These cognitive assessments play a crucial role in identifying cognitive strengths and weaknesses, guiding a diagnosis, intervention planning, and promoting optimal cognitive functioning.

When to Consider an Assessment:

  • Referred for assessment by healthcare professionals, such as GP, Paediatrician, or Psychiatrist, or other Allied Health Professionals

  • Concerns about you or your child’s cognitive development, academic struggles, memory concerns, brain injury or illness, or concerns about intellectual disabilities or developmental delays.

  • Seeking clarity and support for yourself or your child, including accessing NDIS funding for intervention.

The Assessment Process:

  1. Diagnostic Interview with parent/client via Teleheath (1 -1.5hrs)

  2. Structured assessment with client/child in the clinic (1.5 hrs)(Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Preschool and Primary School (WIPPSI -IV); Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children (WISC V); Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale (WAIS))

  3. Other additional assessments, if applicable and will be discussed with the parent/client

  4. Assessment scoring and report writting by the practitioner

  5. Feedback session with parent/client (including report & recommedations) (50 min)

Rebates:

  • Individuals under the age of 25 who have been referred for an assessment by a medical practitioner can claim a rebate from Medicare of $93.35 for the appointments where the individual is present.

  • The  other sessions may be claimable on Private Health Insurance if you have appropriate coverage using item number 100.
